In toolbox 7 we had to brainstorm products for our customers.
In toolbox 7 I finally narrowed down on which customer profile I would be choosing. Initially, a product was not coming to my mind. This product was supposed to be a fine illustration and drawing wasn’t my strong suit, I wanted to play towards my skill strength.
While I was trying to come up with a product my friend was having a discussion on the side where she was trying to figure out what to wear for a party at night. This struck me. I realized my customer was also a confused shopper and dint know when to wear for what, or for which occasion.
I then started to make a spider web for my customer on her lifestyle. She was always on the go, she was friendly and social and always confused to wear a certain outfit to a gathering. For a lady like her, I thought she would like a fun app and something quick to use yet efficient.
I came up with an app. I did a lot of brainstorming and making rough notes, which was very exciting as I saw my idea come together. I first come up with the idea of the customer uploading her looks to the app with whatever question she had about the outfit. These questions would be answered by other users of the app. She could also control the demographics of the people viewing her outfit or the location the customers would be in. My second thought was to make it fun and quick. I thought I could come up with a swiping process, where u like or dislike the customer’s outfit . This is relatively much quicker as if you’re always on the go, this could be a fun way to get outfit inspiration without any hassle. I then came up with a business side to it. I realized that whichever products get the most traction can be uploaded on the app to buy. This then gave me the idea that apps would be able to get sponsorship through ads of fashion houses. Since they would probably want to advertise their clothes in this forum. The app could also get a cut out of every purchase made by the customers. My next thought was to create an own line where the customers can shop from, however, from these products, the app would recommend which of their products would go with their outfit, in an attempt to help the customers style together.
As I thought of one step in the app – more and more ideas started flowing on how to make the app more realistic or user friendly. I mostly came up with my product before the break. I just was not sure if I was in over my head with the idea as none of my other friends around me were making an app for a product.
After the break, I came back and started working on my product on illustrator. I used it digitally because I felt more confident using Adobe rather than drawing it by hand.
Towards the end of class, my teacher came around to my table and when I finally explained my idea and she thought it was clever I was exhilarated. Seeing my idea finally come together gave me a sense of content.
