In toolbox 9 we had to take pictures that would define our product.
We had to think of ideas to come into class with but I had absolutely no clue what to do for my pictures as my product was an app. On top of that, I got no sleep the night because my fan wasn’t working I felt very suffocated. I woke up frazzled for class and I reached the station a second late for my tube and it had left. The next tube would take another 9 minutes to reach my station and it was a 40-minute ride to school so I knew I would be late.
On the train, I was thinking of different ideas for my project. I was choosing between using a phone as a prop or using different looks that would be uploaded into my app.
I was obviously late for my class and missed the first few slides of my presentation. After class, I sought help from my teachers. They all said I should go with the idea of pictures of outfits going into my app. Until the break, I could get only a couple of pictures, and I did not like any of them. I still dint have a clear idea of a theme in my head. I just knew that I had to take pictures of different looks. Some of the pictures I came up with after break was taking two different Dior saddlebags and my friend trying to choose from it or pictures of myself reading a magazine, trying to imply that I’m looking for outfit inspiration. I was also helping my friend, Muskan from the same group as me and she was wearing an Indian outfit, I thought that would be an interesting look for my app as well as it would show diversity. So I ended up taking a couple pictures of her which I would choose from and put into as my final look. Another friend of mine from another group was wearing all black so I styled her with and without a black coat, to show the different ways we can pull of an all-black outfit. Still not satisfied with my media but they were better than the ones I took before the break.
After all of this, I decided to try and edit my pictures in different ways. I didn’t want my work to be too graphical or have too much of a digital influence but rather be more commercial. I used illustrator for this.
After going back home and looking at a blank scream on my computer for hours, I realized I could do 4-5 different looks and add the products used in the looks next to it. This would show the different looks that could be uploaded, and the products that would be displayed on the shopping page, which gained the most traction.
I finally narrowed down 2 pictures one of my friends in the Indian sari and the other all black look that I took after the break. I think they are bold yet simple looks, exactly what I need for my app yet I think if I came up with a better concept for the background and maybe better styling my pictures would have been uplifted.
The next 2 pictures I would be adding would be of myself and my friends would be taking the pictures. I wanted to go to the road for these initially but later on, I wanted more of a plain background so I ended up taking pictures around where I live.
I have to say the pictures are probably the only thing I had been so unsure about and had such an art block with throughout all the work we had done in class till now, which was frightening because I like to be well organized and think ahead for my plan. I am still not 100 percent sure about them because it was done in not a completely decisive mind, but after the editing and putting them together it doesn’t look half as bad as I thought. In my mind not my best work but also not bad
